What is in Beef and Lamb?
Lean red meat provides many essential nutrients and is important for all New Zealanders in maintaining a healthy balanced diet. A small serving of lean beef or lamb provides important nutrients such as B vitamins including B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12 and minerals such as zinc and iron.

One of the minerals in red meat is Iron, this mineral is essential for healthy blood which helps our energy levels. Babies need iron in their diet for brain development. Another mineral is zinc and this contributes to the functions of many things including growth, appetite, healing, and immunity.

How much Fat is in Beef and Lamb?
Trimmed beef and lamb are reasonably low in fat. The best way to make meat as low in fat as possible is to trim all visible fat and leave lean muscle during preparation.
Moderate amounts of cholesterol are found in meat. Cholesterol is a type of fat that can be found in many products derived from animals but is also produced naturally by the body. People require a small amount but high cholesterol can lead to health problems.
The cholesterol contained in foods like meat does not normally have huge adverse affects on a persons health, an excess intake of saturated fats is the main cause.
